Neston Riverside WI Newsletter September 2023
Committee: Pauline Hignett, Philippa Pill, Janice Harris, Jennifer Ricketts, Sue Kendall, Sue Evans, Christine Byrne, Lesley Williams, Dee Pope and Norma Brunsdon
Dear Members,
Well, here we are in the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness whatever that is. As well as putting on suntan cream and sweeping up leaves we need to be thinking about our annual meeting in November.
There are four committee members stepping down so there is an opportunity to do your bit. We meet at our hall on the second Wednesday of each month and anyone is welcome to come and see what we do. They might even be allowed a chocolate biscuit. If you don’t want to commit yourself you can still offer to take on a task such as the raffle, the sales table or refreshments. Please think about it as without a full team it will make it difficult for us to continue. It’s up to you.
Our meeting last month about life on the canal boats was very well done and I still keep thinking about those poor women jumping off the boat to give birth on the tow path. No gas and air for them then.
We’ve also had two successful outings one the high tour of Chester Cathedral and last week our walking tour of Port Sunlight both events really interesting.
A big thank you again for your outstanding contribution to the food bank. It is gratefully received and appreciated. Please continue to support our sales table in any way you can as this too is for the food bank. Adrienne has kindly offered to deliver this month’s food. Thank you.
Please don’t forget Julie’s appeal for the hedgehogs….cat food, old towels, newspapers, kitchen roll etc. A very worthy cause.
Christmas. The committee have taken the decision to have our main celebration at our December meeting this year rather than have a meal out and a party. If members feel they’d enjoy a local Christmas meal maybe join in with the ‘diners group’ which is to be run by Norma. She will be talking about this at our meeting.
South Wirral Group. We have an allocation of 16 tickets and after sales last month we have 8 left. They are £6 and we will be entertained by ‘The Port Sunlight Sea Dogs’ from 2:00 to 4:00 on Friday October 20th.
We are proposing a visit to the Chester Christmas Markets where we can wander at will and then lunch together on Thursday 30th November. There will be a board at the meeting.
‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’ is on at the Empire as a matinee on Wednesday 18th October. Jennifer is looking into this and there will be a board to sign at the meeting.
