Dear Members,

I can’t believe we are already preparing for our June meeting and that it’s so hot! I hope you’re all surviving and drinking plenty of gin.

Our meeting last month about the ‘Blood Bikes’ was a real eye opener for me and I know you all enjoyed it too. He was a good speaker and appreciated both our cheque and our collection at the end of his talk. Thank you.

A big thank you again for our outstanding contribution to the food bank. It is gratefully received and appreciated. Please continue to support our sales table in any way you can as this too is for the food bank. Adrienne has kindly offered to deliver this month’s food. Thank you.

There will be no collection in July.

We thought it might be a good idea to arrange a summer walk possibly including a litter pick. Is there anyone who feels they could organise this for us?

A big thank you to Lyn Worrall for representing us at Cardiff. She has written a report which will be read at our meeting so that we have a good idea of what was discussed.

Pauline Pollard from Ness and Little Neston WI has invited anyone interested to their poetry and prose group. This is held on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30 at her home. It’s more of an appreciation group than a writing one and the theme for July is Fire.

Our speaker this month is Peter Cunnington who we know will have some entertaining and informative tales about plant collecting. We are grateful to him as our advertised speaker is unable to come.

Dates for your diary

Book Group….. 27th June at Philippa’s house

Creative Writing…. 21st June at Dee’s house

Diners…The committee felt that we should have a break from this as after all we have a meal out in July and need to consider our calorie intake.

July 1st Village Fete. Everyone agreed last month that we would repeat our hamper stall from last year. Janice is putting this together but would really welcome any contribution. Please avoid chocolate in case it’s very warm. Could we also please have some volunteers for the day, even if you only help for half an hour it gives the committee a break. We were lucky enough to find some valued new members following our efforts last year.

July 19th Birthday dinner. Twentyone members have signed up which means we are just about viable to use Bromborough Golf Club as planned. We will need payment of £26.50 please.

July 27th Lytham. As I explained in a separate email we have been offered 10 places by Willaston Hey WI. The coach cost for the outing is now reduced to £10 and the entrance to Lytham hall is £8. Please be sure that you can go if you sign tonight. It promises to be a good day out.

August 18th High Tour of Chester Cathedral. Members requested we organise this again. The cost is £14 per person and 10 people can form a party for the guided talk. There are 216 steps so please consider this before you commit yourself. They also advise against people with heart conditions being included. We have done this before and it is spectacular.

October 3rd at the Storyhouse is the Federation Autumn meeting. More information to follow.

December members meeting will be on the 13th not the 20th.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Best Wishes Pauline.
