A very warm welcome to our new committee members. We have already had our first committee meeting as a new committee and lots of ideas discussed for the coming year. Although we have ideas for outings etc. suggestions from members are invaluable. So please use the suggestion box which will be displayed at every meeting.
Readers – Swallows and Amazons was last month’s Readers Club choice. The book for January is Silas Marner. The next Book Club meeting is at Philippa’s house on Monday 9th January, 7.30pm. New members always welcome.
Drama Club – There will be an initial meeting of the Drama Group on Wednesday 8th February 7.30p.m at the Methodist Church Hall. This will be run by Janice. Come along and have a go.
Reelers - Sandra will start Reelers again in the New Year.
Craft Club – Will re-start on Wednesday 25th January at Sheila Wastlings house, 96 Burton Road. 7pm onwards.
Clickers – A date has yet to be fixed as our venue at Net’s Café may be closed. This information is yet to be acquired. If so we will meet at my house 109 Marshlands Road 2p.m. I will let Clicker girls know the date a.s.a.p.
Christmas at Whitefriars – Several of our members made the trip to Whitefriars and had a very enjoyable visit. There was a craft stall, raffle and the archives of W.I’s. Coffee and mince pies were also served.
Church Christmas Trees – The stars that were made by the craft club were displayed on our Christmas tree in the Church. Several members visited the display of Christmas trees and said how well they all looked.
Diners Club – The Brewers, Neston was the venue for the diners Christmas Lunch. Although numbers were small (9) the members had a very good, hot meal. The landlord was very attentive and the tables were dressed nicely. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The next diners club to be arranged. We can give our stomachs a rest for a while.
Creative Writing- 7 members attended the first meeting of the Creative Writing afternoon at Pauline Hignetts house on Monday 12th. There is room for more members to join and the next meeting is on Monday 16th January 2p.m.
Body Shop evening – Although the Body Shop evening was a success and monies were raised for the Malawi Fund. Unfortunately some of the orders are still owing due to the incompetence of the demonstrator. Hopefully this issue will be resolved. Sue Jones has had numerous phone calls sent several texts but still no satisfaction. Sue will write to head office with a letter of complaint.
Forthcoming outings -
Floral Pavilion – Sue Jones has suggested a trip to the Floral Pavilion to see a play called ‘The Verdict’ with Clive Mantle and Jack Shepherd. The play runs between the dates of Feb 27th to the 4th March. A date has yet to be arranged.
North West Cancer Research at Liverpool Hospital – Judith Whiteway will enquire about a visit to the Liverpool hospital.
Snowdrop Walk, ChirkCastle – Lyn Worrall will be organising this walk. Again date and information to be arranged.
Segway, Delamere – Philippa has suggested a Segway Experience which takes place in Delamere Forest. For those members who are not familiar with Segway’s here is a brief explanation. It is a device which you stand on with wheels and you travel along at a reasonable speed. Sounds great fun. Philippa has lots more details.
Follyfield Nurseries, Willaston – Andrea will look into the arrangements. Hopefully about April. Just in time for planting out in our own gardens.
Vintage tea party/bring a friend. – This will be one of our sociable events which were missed by our members last year. The friend does not have to be a W.I. member.
Airbus, Broughton – This is one trip with a definite date. It has been changed slightly but the date is Thursday 17th August. It is a morning event. Gill Hilditch will have more details nearer the time. Because it can only be parties of 20 an additional date may be arranged.
Haughton Hall Gardens – Thursday 18th May. The details will be in your Cheshire News which everyone will receive free of charge. Also we will announce the details as well.
A.G.M. Liverpool – 8 members have signed the board for the observers tickets at A.G.M.Because of the short timespan Norma will send for 8 tickets and a cheque and then members can reimburse the £20.
